| People talk about "speed' causing accidents. In teaching family and teens of friends how to drive, I have always stressed it is not only speed that causes a problems in driving, but losing traction. A driver should never lose traction. Anything can happen once traction is lost, hitting people, trees, building, other cars and trucks, highway barriers, or sliding sideways causing rollovers. In rollovers, life is a throw of the dice and up to God. Traction can be lost many ways, no matter what speed: Ice, black ice, snow, wet pavement, standing water, hard rain, bald tires, blown tire, flat tire, wind, sudden swerve, touched/hit/bumped by another car, sudden braking, sand, gravel, rocks, over correcting, uneven roadway, mud, metal plates covering roadway, potholes, manhole covers, missing manhole covers, drainage metal grating, road oil after rain, curve in road, bumps in the road, faulty shock absorbers, faulty brakes, unevenly loaded trailer, hitting road debris, sudden acceleration, ... If you are ever in a car whose driver is driving recklessly, please get out. Too many young people are dying needlessly. |
